Tampa, FL. November 25, 2014. CWE program faculty, graduate students, and alumni were highly visible at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER) held on November 18-19, 2014 in Nashville, TN. The conference is part of the larger national meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), the premier professional association in the field. Concurrently, the Omicron Tau Theta (OTT)—an national honorary society in the field, and the International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) also held their annual meetings at the ACTE conference. This year, the program had seven presentations in the different meetings as noted below.
- Dr. Johanna Lasonen and Doctoral Candidate in CWE Shetay Ashford presented a paper on “From Partnership to Praxis between Colleges and Workplaces” at the Annual Meeting of the International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) on November 18, in Nashville, TN.
- Jessica Shearer, doctoral student in the CWE program, presented the topic on “Inter-professional Communication and Experiential Learning” at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) on November 21, in Nashville, TN.
- Jake Prokop, doctoral student in the CWE program, presented the topic on "Integrating Industry Tours with Common Core" at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) on November 20, in Nashville, TN.
- Alisha Hyslop, doctoral student in the CWE program, presented the topic "ACTE Federal Policy Update" at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) on November 20, in Nashville, TN.
- Dr. Johanna Lasonen was recognized for best discussion of presentations at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER) on November 20, 2014 in Nashville, TN.
- Dr. Eddie Fletcher presented a paper entitled "Signature Pedagogies of Faculty in Career and Technical Education" at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER), on November 19 in Nashville, TN. Co-authors of the paper included Yenni Djajalaksana (graduate of the Higher Education doctoral program) and Dr. Jim Eison.
- Shetay Ashford presented a poster entitled "Pre-Collegiate Urban Teaching Academy Student Perspectives of Diversity" at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER), on November 18th in Nashville, TN. Her co-author included Dr. Eddie Fletcher.
- Drs. Daniel Cox and Kristin Pierce (graduates of the CWE doctoral program) presented a paper entitled "How Does Participation in Middle School Technology Education and STEM-related Career and Technical Education Courses Impact Student Achievement in Science, Mathematics, and Reading?" at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER), on November 19th in Nashville, TN.
- Dr. Kristin Pierce presented a poster entitled "Revisiting the Basics of Curriculum Integration in Career and Technical Education: A Review of Literature,” at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER), on November 18th. Her co-author included Dr. Victor Hernandez.
